After suffering their fifth consecutive defeat at Chepauk, Chennai Super Kings lost to the Punjab Kings by another nail-biting margin of four runs, their last flicker of hope in this IPL 2025. In such a situation, two wins out of the ten matches were not officially enough for them to qualify into the playoffs. It marks the first time they have missed out on playoffs for two consecutive seasons.
Dhoni shared his opinion on the difficult season after the match. He said that this was their very first time when they reached a good total, but added it was still not enough, seeming as the pitch looked really good for batting. Dhoni lauded Curran and Brevis for their partnership but mentioned how losing four wickets in the nineteenth over really hurt their chance.
He said, “We did manage what could be termed as a good score, regrettably, however, not adequate. We could have tried for more runs. Curran and Brevis built a good partnership, but we have to catch those chances to slow down the other team. Good effort by the batsmen, but we lost four wickets in the last over, that makes it huge in a T20 match.”
He credited Sam Curran with being a top player and conceded that they were short by 15 runs. He also complimented Dewald Brevis as having great energy and the ability to score four-fours, insisting that some of the new faces were required in the team, as he considered Brevis to be valuable for their future plans.
Sam is the kind of fighter who always wants to lend a hand, whether it be with the bowling or batting. This was the best pitch we’ve had all season, and I think we needed just a little bit more from our total. Luckily for Brevis, he is a very high-energy guy who can really smack the ball. We definitely needed someone fresh, and I think he can be a key player for us going forward.
This is the next match lined for CSK against RCB on May 3 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The loyal Yellove Army is wishing that their team will overcome the last year’s heartbreak and take the revenge this season.
