Shakib Al Hasan will play for Dubai Capitals in the second Global Super League (GSL) season, which starts July 10 in Guyana.
He will wear the Dubai Capitals jersey instead of playing for his old team, Rangpur Riders. Rangpur Riders will miss Shakib but the Capitals are ready to cash in on his joining. Shakib Al Hasan is back again but Rangpur Riders will enter the tournament without him. Although they thought of bringing him back, Rangpur decided to be cautious.
Team director Shanian Tanim told the media that Shakib Al Hasan is still one of the best players in franchise leagues around the globe and in Bangladesh. He added that given the current situation they couldn’t include him in the squad.
Shakib hasn’t been back to Bangladesh since the student protests last year. Although there is no official ban on him, the Riders management didn’t want to create trouble.
