Often regarded as one of the best fielders of the game Faf du plessis took a stunning catch in the SA20 league eliminator that almost took gravity out of context.
The catch which became the talk in the cricketing world was taken in the first innings of the Joburg vs Sunrisers Eastern Cape eliminator clash .
Du Plessis invited Sunrisers Eastern Cape to bat first after winning the toss and in the 5th over of the innings veteran spinner Imran tahir bowled a flighted delivery outside of stump to Eastern Cape opener Badingham.
The right handed batter timed the ball beautifully through deep cover but Faf du plessis who was standing at mid off pulled off a stunning catch by jumping backward.
Imran Tahir was more than happy seeing Faf du plessis taking that fabulous catch. The spin legend continued his usual celebration of running across the ground before imitating Cristiano Ronaldo’s “Siuu ” celebration. Tahir even went on to hug Faf du plessis after picking up the wicket of Badingham who was dismissed after a quickfire 27 which includes 3 fours and 1 six.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s innings was de- railed as they lost 4 wickets inside the first 10 overs. However, skipper Aiden Markam along with Tristan Stubbs added 75 runs before Stubbs got out for 27.
Markam remained not out till the end scoring 62 of just 40 deliveries followed by Marco Jensen who played a wonderful Cameo scoring quickfire 23 runs helping Eastern Cape to post a significant score of 184 runs in their 20 overs.
Talking about the Chase Joburg super kings Started well with Opener Faf du plessis and Devon Conway got the team off to a brisk start but couldn’t add long partnership . While Conway scored with 30 runs du Plessis made 19 . Baristow was the top scorer for them scoring 37 runs.
Joburg lost wickets at regular intervals in the chase and finally ended their innings 32 runs short of the target marking an end to their campaign. For Easter Cape, Craig Overton, Liam Dawson and Ottniel Baartman each picked two wickets. Sunrisers Eastern Cape will now take on Paarl Royals in the qualifier 2 of the SA20 2025 league.
