Imran Tahir, 46 years and 148 days old, made history on Saturday. He became the second-oldest bowler to take 5 wickets in a T20 game.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors’ captain bowled some great leg-spin in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025. He took 5/21 in 4 overs, 1 maiden over, and destroyed the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in North Sound.
His work led Guyana to an 84-run win and he broke a few records in the shortest game format. After Shai Hope’s 82 and Shimron Hetmyer’s 63, the Warriors put up a big total of 211-3. Romario Shepherd came in late and hit an unbeaten 25 off 8 balls and ensured the Warriors finished strong. They scored 145 runs in the last 9 overs and 41 runs in the last 2 overs.

The Falcons started well, reaching 58 in 4 overs as they chased a big target of 212. Dwaine Pretorius got 2 quick wickets, removing openers Rahkeem Cornwall and Jewel Andrew. Karima Gore tried to keep the runs coming. But once Romario Shepherd got him out in the 5th over, the innings started to fall apart.
Tahir’s bowling made sure the Falcons didn’t get to the target. He started with a 2-wicket maiden in the 7th over, getting out Shakib Al Hasan and captain Imad Wasim. Tahir mixed his googlies with smart flight and tore through the middle order. He reduced the Falcons from 77/3 to 116/8. The amazing bowling helped Imran Tahir break many records in T20 cricket.
Tahir, 46 years and 148 days old, broke the record of Malawi captain Moazzam Ali Baig who took a 5-fer against Cameroon at 39 years old in September 2024 . Tahir also became the 2nd oldest player in the world to take a 5-wicket haul in T20s, behind Tomakanute Ritawa who took 5/19 against Fiji in 2022 at 46 years and 299 days. This was Tahir’s 5th 5-wicket haul in T20s. He is now joint 2nd on the all-time list with Lasith Malinga, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shaheen Afridi and Shakib Al Hasan. David Wiese is the only one ahead with 7 5-fers in 402 matches.
Imran Tahir has played 436 T20s, taken 554 wickets. He is 4th in the list of most wickets behind Rashid Khan, Dwayne Bravo and Sunil Narine. Since turning 40, Tahir has played 200 T20s, taken 266 wickets at an economy rate of 6.86.
At 46, Tahir is still playing well and delivering match-winning spells and that’s why his name is among the legends of T20 cricket.
