June 20th is the day when India takes on England in the first Test of a five-match series at Headingley, Leeds. This is the start of a new World Test Championship cycle for the Shubman Gill led team.
India is going through big changes, with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stepping away from Test cricket. Replacing them is going to be tough. Every player in the team has spoken about the absence of Virat and Rohit. Recently, KL Rahul said this will be his first Test without either of them.
Virat and Rohit have been the backbone of Indian cricket for almost a decade and not having them around is going to be a big miss. In all my Test matches so far, either Virat or Rohit or both have always been there, KL Rahul told Delhi Capitals in an interview. He accepted their decision and asked the younger players to step up in their absence.
It feels a bit strange to walk into that dressing room without them, but you have to respect their choice. They’ve given everything to the country and will always be legends. Now it’s time for the rest of us to take charge, he added, after the IPL 2025.
