India will be up against England in a five-Test series starting June 20, thereby beginning their WTC 2025-27 campaign. Prior to the series, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli legally announced their retirements from Test cricket. Jasprit Bumrah is the crucial player for India during this tour-resting for some games because of fitness concerns-and he has further signalled that retirement is not that far away.
Bumrah said in an interview with former Australian captain Michael Clarke for the Beyond 23 Podcast that players need to be smart about managing their bodies. He cited how it’s hard to maintain the same level of intensity as time goes by. He then explained that right now, he feels fit, and the moment he feels his passion slipping or his body can’t keep up anymore, he would want to start considering hanging up his boots.

“It’s hard for anyone to keep playing everything for so long. I’ve been at it for a while now, but you have to be aware of your body and know which tournaments matter most. So, you need to be a bit selective and smart about how you play. As a cricketer, I don’t want to miss any game, but you have to find that balance,” Bumrah further stated.
“At this moment, I am ok. But I don’t set goals such as this is the number I should be at. I look at it one day at a time. The journey is going good so far, but the day I realise that the drive is gone or the effort is not there or my body is not holding up, that is the time when you make the decision.”
