Mohammad Hafeez, a former cricketer from Pakistan and coach, has got himself into trouble after meeting Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, who the Indian authorities want to charge with money laundering and fomenting extremism though hate speeches. Hafeez posted photos on social media following their meeting, which did not impress the social media universe.
One user responded to the pictures by writing, “No wonder why your cricket is going down the drain.”
“This is one reason why the Indian cricket team and the Indian government do not want to come to Pakistan…He is a fugitive from the Indian police,” said the second one.
According to Hafeez, “It was a pleasure meeting with Zakir Naik,” as evidenced by the pictures that he uploaded online. One picture shows Hafeez dressed in a brown kurta pajama standing next to Naik, another showing the two at a restaurant, where Hafeez sported a T-shirt. However, this did not sit well with the rest of the internet.

While many cricket fans were unhappy with the former cricketer for having posed with a fugitive, others were quick to remind him of his earlier comments about the caliber of Pakistan’s 1990s team, which, according to him, failed to win many ICC tournaments despite their talent.
“90s legends zindabad. How many WCPS have you won for Pakistan, sir?” wrote one social media user.
Another said: “Did he speak so much truth on TV after meeting Zakir Naik?”
