One of the most anticipated leagues around the World big bash league is just around the corner the upcoming edition of the tournament is all set to commence from December 14 with the final set to be played on 25 January 2026.
The league has the history of producing some of the greatest batting performances since its inaugural edition and has produced some of the biggest superstars and match winners especially for Australia in the white ball format.
In this article we will have a look at the top run getters in the history of the Big Bash league.
1. Chris Lynn
Chris Lynn has put his name down in the record books as the highest run scorer in the BBL with a staggering 3955 runs to his name. As the long reigning player of the St. Riders and still going strong, its hard to see anyone breaking his record anytime soon – especially with Finch having hung up his boots. Lynn was with the Heat for eleven years – and what a partnership he had with Brendon McCullum. They were unstoppable – they put together 300 run scores + – and one of those was a real highlight of the tournament.

Back in 2012/13, Lynn won his one and only BBL title with the Brisbane Heat. And what a tournament he had – knocking up 175 runs at a strike rate of 144.62 was no mean feat. Then there was the 2020/21 season – that was the year he really came to the fore – with 458 runs in just 13 games at a strike rate of 154.72 – it was his most productive season to date.
2. Aaron Finch
Aaron Finch has finally hung up his boots – and what a career he had in the BBL. He accumulated 3,311 runs in the format – and not bad for a bloke who was an Australian T20 captain. And one of the reasons he stands out is that he spent 13 years of the premier T20 tournament with just one team – and you cant say fairer than that. Finch wore the blue jersey of the Melbourne Renegades for all that time and the 2018/19 trophy is something he’ll always look back on with pride. A 220 run tally in just 8 games that season was a big part of why they won the thing.
3. Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell currently lies third in the BBL all time run scoring chart – and it comes as no surprise to anyone who knows their T20 cricket. But what really sets Maxwell apart is his strike rate – a massive 152.51 puts him in second place in the BBL history books. And its not just his batting – Maxwell is a top all-rounder too – as a right arm off spinner, he’s got 45 wickets to his name in the BBL.
4. Mosis Henriques
Moises Henriques is the fourth—rank BBL all-time run-getters and the team Sydney Sixers run-getter. In total, he scored 3139 runs in the competition. The 34-year-old Henriques is a great asset to his team in so many different ways. He has won two titles in the tournament with the Sixers as captain in 2019/20 and 2020/21, and now he is a trained captain. Though the two-time BBL winner has a low range of strike rates, he is going for the consistence technique to ensure the Sixers wins.
Moises Henriques the right-handed batsman had the season of a batsman which will never be surpassed in the league’s history when he scored 440 runs in the 2021/22 season of the Big Bash League. His runs came at a rate of 133.33 with an average of 36.66. Henriques’ performance was a major factor in the Sixers getting to the final for the third consecutive year where they ended up as the runners-up
5. D’Arcy Short
D’Arcy Short is among the few cricketers who have significantly benefited from The Big Bash. The left-handed batsman astonished everyone by his performance in the BBL 2017/18. He played for Hobart Hurricanes and scored 572 runs in 2017/18 and then 637 runs in 2018/19 which was the second season of consecutive top scorer for the 34-year-old. Besides the contract in IPL, he was also offered the opportunity to play for Australia as his batting skills.
He could not perform well at the international level, being part of only 31 limited overs matches. Short has also succumbed to the loss of runs at the Big Bash in the last few years. In the past two seasons, he has managed to score just 398 runs in 21 innings. He has been hitting only 117 in this period.
