In an interesting move, Delhi Capitals have roped in Munaf Patel as their new bowling coach for IPL 2025. The franchise announced the former Indian pacer’s appointment on November 12, 2024.
Following the departure of head coach Ricky Ponting and his support staff, the Capitals are building a new coaching staff before the IPL 2025 season.
They have already appointed Hemang Badani as their head coach and Venugopal Rao as Director of Cricket. Now Patel fills in the empty bowling coach slot vacated by James Hope.

Munaf Patel: World Cup Winner to Bowling Coach
This will be Munaf Patel’s first coaching assignment after he retired from international cricket in 2018. The former medium pacer represented India in 13 Tests, 70 ODIs, and three T20Is, taking 35, 86, and four wickets, respectively.
Patel was also part of the 2011 World Cup-winning Indian squad. He was the third-highest wicket-taker for India with 11 wickets.
Apart from that, Patel also played in the IPL as a bowler. He started his IPL career with Rajasthan Royals in 2008 before moving to Mumbai Indians in 2011.
After three seasons with Mumbai, the right-arm pacer missed out on the next three seasons. He returned for one last time in IPL 2017, though he played only two matches for Gujarat Lions.
Now Patel is back again in the IPL, though this time as a bowling coach. His appointment also comes on the heels of the IPL 2025 auction, which will take place on November 24 and 25.
Patel will have the big task of bringing the best out of every bowler Delhi picks in the auction. The Capitals have INR 73 crore to pick the best players in the mega auction.
