Big bash league is the biggest cricket carnival in Australia after the Ashes. The league has been one of the most anticipated tournaments that cricket fans from all around the World eagerly await.
The big bash league has given Australia their biggest match winners especially in the Shortest format of the game. The league is known for its high intensity destructive batting where the batters take on the charge from the very first ball.
In this article we will cover the batters with the best Strike rate in the history of the BBL
1. Tim David (157.66)
The BBL’s highest strike rate is held by Tim David. The right-handed finisher is the only player with a phenomenal strike rate of 157.66 and has put up a total of 1,326 runs in the league’s entire history. Taking into account the big grounds in Australia, it could never be a bad tactic to have such a player in your squad as an advantage.

David, who was born in Singapore and now plays in Australia, has made a name for himself as a player who can perform stunts like this with great ease. For the bowlers, it can be pretty difficult to cope with him in death overs. Being 6 feet 5 inches tall, the batter in the Hobart Hurricanes team has a wide span and if the bowlers miss their target by a couple of centimeters, then the batter can flick the ball to the sky.
2. Glenn Maxwell (155.69)
The strike rate list is hardly ever without Glenn Maxwell. The Australian all-rounder is one of the top six hitters in today’s cricket. His 2023 ODI World Cup innings against Afghanistan that included the first-ever double century in ODIs in a chase remains fresh in everybody’s memory.
Nonetheless, records of Maxwell’s high strike rate and runs have not been enough for the Melbourne Stars to secure a singular BBL trophy even once. In 13 seasons, there has been only one occasion for the player when he could not keep a strike rate above 140. The year of 2021/22 was a breakthrough season for the Australian all-rounder as he scored 400+ runs for the first time in his career. He scored two centuries and had a strike rate of almost 160 during that period.
3. Josh Brown (150.84)
Josh Brown is at the number three position in terms of the topmost strike rates of the BBL. The Australian batsman has scored 807 runs at a strike rate of 150.84. Even though Brown has been a flop with his average in the tournament, he is still among the most dangerous and powerful hitters in the league. The right-handed batsman is appreciated for his hitting rarely seen in others. In fact, he is the only one who hits almost 4.2 balls for every boundary in the BBL.
Nonetheless, upright and very consistent has been a major issue for this player. His best season was 2023/24 when the batsman made 366 runs at a rate of 150.61. Batting 140 in the playoffs, Josh Brown not only helped the Heat of Brisbane to the finals but also a fifty in the final that brought their victory over the tournament.
4. Chris Lynn (149.92)
Chris Lynn is in the fourth position when it comes to the topmost strike rates in the BBL. The right-handed batsman has scored 3,955 runs at a strike rate of 149.92. In fact, he has also set a record for scoring the most runs in the BBL. Lynn’s capability to hit sixes even with very fast bowlers at the powerplay stage makes him one of the most lethal hitters in the history of the league.
Had it not been for his shoulder injuries in 2014-15 and 2015-16, the Brisbane-born batsman would have had more chances to be part of the Australian cricket team. T20 formats have made Lynn one of the most sought-after batters all over the world. The first batsman has just once won the BBL in 2012-13. It was during the title-winning season that Lynn amassed 175 runs at a strike rate of 144.62.
5. Alex Hales (149.08)
Alex Hales, an overseas player, has the highest strike rate in the BBL that is still a record. The England team player in the 2022 T20 World Cup has 2,360 runs in the BBL with a strike rate of 149.08. Hales has been a part of four different teams in the Big Bash League. The right-handed batter, who was out of England’s international matches from 2019 to 2022, was still among the top players.
Hales started with the Renegades but then played for one season each with the Strikers and the Hurricanes before moving to the Thunder. The change turned out to be very advantageous for him since he scored over 500 runs in each of the first two seasons. During these two years, his strike rate was also an impressive 153.7. The Thunders were fifth and third respectively in those years. Though Hales has not been able to lift a BBL trophy yet, he remains one of the top batsman in BBL’s history.
