An important development has arisen as the BCCI selectors are hassled with the decision to sit down with Rohit Sharma and discuss his position as an India ODI captain.
According to the reports, the selectors will be convening on Saturday, October 4, 2025, with the key issue for consideration being a one-on-one discussion about the ODI captaincy between the selectors and Rohit Sharma.
BCCI selectors to Meet Rohit Sharma
Rohit, who hasn’t turned out for his country since the Champions Trophy 2025, is reportedly likely to return for the ODIs on tour, having signalled the recent clearance of his fitness test at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

“The defining point of the selection meeting, however, will be the captaincy for the ODIs – specifically, whether Rohit will be retained as captain. It is understood that the selectors plan to discuss the matter with him directly. Meanwhile, Rohit cleared his fitness test at the BCCI centre of excellence in Bengaluru recently,” read the report by Cricbuzz.
BCCI is henceforth keen to make a long-term plan looking at the ODI World Cup 2027, and from this conversation, it would become clear if Rohit is to lead India.
The 38-year-old just recently shed those extra pounds, nearly 10 kgs.
In the last few years, Rohit Sharma has been an absolute marvel in ODIs, featuring in 273 matches and aggregating 11168 runs averaging 48.76 with a strike-rate of 92.80. India under the stewardship of Rohit Sharma went on to the finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup, won the 2024 T20 World Cup, and recently claimed the 2025 Champions Trophy title.
The Indian team’s tour of Australia begins with a three-match ODI series taking place on the 19th of October (Perth), October 23 (Adelaide), and October 25 (Sydney). This will then be followed up by a five-match T20I series from October 29 to November 8.
