Royal Challengers Bangaluru receives a massive jolt ahead of the start of the upcoming season of the WPL as their sensational opening batter Sophie Devine is all set to miss the entire WPL season. Spohie Devine had a phenomenal run in international cricket as she helped New Zealand to win the maiden T20 World Cup in 2024. She also played a massive role with both bat and ball helping RCB to win their first ever title.
Sophie Devine has taken a break from the franchise cricket owing to prioritizing her physical and Mental well being.
As per the official statement from the Newzeland cricket board, “Sophie Devine will now withdraw from domestic cricket and return home for ensuring the well being of her Mental and physical fitness . The decision made by Devine this week upon receiving professional advice means that she misses out on both the rest of her Dream11 Super Smash season with Wellington and her 2025 Women’s Premier League assignment with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).”
According to Liz Green who is currently the chief of the Women’s High performance and Development said that she has fully supported the decision of Sophie Devine to return home.

“Player well-being is paramount to us; it is given the utmost priority in everything we do,” said Green. “Sophie has received fantastic assistance from the New Zealand Cricket Players Association and from our own staff in the high-performance unit, and there is a unanimous understanding that this is the best option available. The vital thing for NZC is for Sophie to have a fruitful break. She ought to receive suitable support and care, ensuring that she is healthy and fit before returning to the professional cricket arena.”
How has Sophie Devine performed in WPL?
Devine has so far featured in 143 T20 international for New Zealand and contributed 3391 runs with the bat. She has also picked up 117 wickets for them. She was picked by RCB in the WPL auction for 50 lakh in 2023. She featured in 8 matches for the RCB team scoring 266 runs which included 2 fifties. She also picked 3 wickets in the same number of matches.
RCB have so far named no replacement for the legend.
