Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag lashed out against Ishan Kishan for walking away from the crease despite having not faced any sort of dismissal. The incident, according to Sehwag, is a gross misjudgment on Kishan’s part. According to Sehwag’s assessment, Ishan should have merely waited for the umpire’s decision as that was part of the umpiring duty.
Sunrisers Hyderabad remained in ninth place after incurring their sixth defeat of IPL 2025 out of eight matches. This incident occurred in the third over of Hyderabad’s innings when Ishan attempted to connect with a delivery from Deepak Chahar. He completely missed it and walked off without any appeal from the Mumbai Indians.

The replays indicated that neither Ishan’s bat nor any part of his body had touched the ball, which only added to the general disbelief about why he left without waiting for the umpire’s call. Sehwag, while commenting on Cricbuzz, stated, “At times, the mind just does not work at that moment. It was a brain fade. Stop and wait for the umpire. He also is being paid to do his job.”
He added that had there been an edge, leaving would be understandable, but in this case, with the umpire unsure, leaving didn’t make sense. Adding to Ishan’s woes this IPL, he is struggling to score runs after a century in the first game. Instead of exerting pressure on the Mumbai bowlers, the batting of Hyderabad simply crumbled, and Ishan’s premature leave didn’t help things. On April 25, SRH will take on the Chennai Super Kings at their home ground.
