Nitish Kumar Reddy, the young Indian all-rounder has been with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for a while now. He started with the team and has improved over the years. After a poor season in IPL 2025, there were whispers he wasn’t happy with his role in the team. Some reports said he might want to leave SRH.
To stop the rumors, Nitish posted on Twitter (now X). He said he will stay with the team and support them fully.
Here’s why SRH might keep him:
There’s a reason why SRH won’t let go of Nitish Kumar Reddy before the IPL 2026 mini-auction in December.
Before the IPL 2025 mega-auction in Jeddah in 2024, SRH showed faith in Nitish by retaining him for a good Rs 6 crore. He was one of the 5 players retained by the team after they reached the IPL 2024 final. Among the Indian players, only Nitish and Abhishek Sharma were retained, which shows how much SRH valued them.
Nitish Chose Loyalty Over Money
Even with offers from other IPL teams, Nitish said he never thought of leaving SRH. He said:
Other teams were interested, but I can only see myself playing for SRH. They trusted me from the start and now I want to repay that trust.
He also said the price tag didn’t matter to him, but being part of SRH and playing for his home region as a Telugu speaker did.

Playing for SunRisers Hyderabad makes me feel good. As a Telugu speaker, I’m happy to play for my region and SRH. The price tag doesn’t matter; I just want to do well and help my team win, he told The Quint.
SRH bought Nitish in IPL 2023 for just INR 20 lakhs. After showing some promise, he was retained for 2024 where he got regular chances and did well. He played important innings at No. 4 and took important wickets which helped his team win.
But things didn’t go as planned in IPL 2025. His batting position kept changing and his batting and strike rate went down.Though he had a poor season, Reddy is still a good player. He’s a rare all-rounder who can bowl fast and hit big. He would be in demand in the IPL 2026 auction.
