The captain of India’s T20I cricket team, Suryakumar Yadav, guided the squad to an incredible victory in the Asia Cup 2025, but his performance has not been consistent. The ‘360-degree’ batsman is now only a part of India’s T20I squad, and thus, the matter of top-level consistent match practice has become a concern. Prior to the commencing of the three-match T20I series against Australia, Suryakumar was inquired by the press during a public appearance about his form. The captain very quickly eliminated doubts, saying he was at a great place at the present time.
“I believe that I am really putting in a lot of effort; if I go back to the past, I was doing it but it would be wrong to say that I was not putting in effort. I have had a couple of good sessions back home, good two or three sessions here, so I am in a good space; I think that is really important. Runs will come eventually, but working hard towards a team goal-that’s more important,” Suryakumar said during the pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
When questioned about the combination of the squad, Suryakumar gave a clue that the team would be using three spinners against the Australians.
“I don’t think that our combination changes too much with conditions. If you see, during our stay in South Africa, we played one fast bowler, one all-rounder, and three spinners. Conditions are similar here, some bouncy tracks,” he said.
Suryakumar also mentioned that he would depend on Bumrah’s Australia experience to win the five-match series.
“I think the way he has played his cricket for the past years, he has maintained his position at the top, and he knows how to get ready for a great series,” Suryakumar stated.
“He knows how to come here and play cricket. He has been here more often than the rest of the players. So all of them have had direct communication with him. He is very approachable and ready to assist,” he continued.
