South Africa, the Test Champions, will be without their captain Temba Bavuma for the two-match Test series against Zimbabwe. He played with a hamstring injury during the WTC final and it seems to have made it worse. Cricket South Africa confirmed on their X account that Bavuma won’t be playing. Keshav Maharaj will be the captain in his absence and Bavuma will have more scans to see how bad the injury is.
South Africa’s next big challenge in the new WTC cycle is the two-match Test series against Pakistan in October so Bavuma has some time to recover. If he heals quickly he might be back to lead the team in the ODI series against Australia in August.
