AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli were phenomenal cricketers who entertained spectators around the globe, making people stop and gaze at their play when they together batted for Royal Challengers Bangalore. On this date in 2016, these players built the highest-ever second-wicket partnership in men’s T20 cricket. De Villiers and Kohli joined forces during the 2016 IPL to dismantle the Gujarat Lions.
After the early dismissal of Chris Gayle, RCB had no more disasters with the bat. Kohli and De Villiers put up a huge 229-run stand in only 96 balls at the M Chinnaswamy Ground. Kohli scored 109 off 55 balls, with 5 fours and 8 sixes. However, it was De Villiers, who stole the limelight with an unbeaten 129 from 52 balls, including 10 fours and 12 sixes.

Another fact that makes this partnership supreme is that the two broke their own record for the highest second-wicket partnership that they had set in 2015 when their unbeaten stand against the Mumbai Indians was worth 215 runs. As of now, their 229-run partnership is still the highest for any wicket in IPL history.
Praveen Kumar accounted for two wickets for the other side, but the Lions were having a tough time coming to terms with the onslaught from Kohli and De Villiers. After RCB set up a huge target of 248/3, Lions were all out for 104 courtesy of Yuzvendra Chahal (3/19) and Chris Jordan (4/11), who tore through Lions in the second half.
