In the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Marsh was woefully out of form for his side. The 33-year-old all-rounder from Perth ground out the first four matches of the home series against India for merely 73 runs from seven innings, taking only three wickets. Dropped from the playing XI in the fifth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground due to his horrible form, Webster came into the side and scored 57 and 39 not out to see Australia through to victory by six wickets inside three days.
During the annual Australian Cricket Awards in Melbourne on Monday, February 3, Marsh poked fun at the way Australian fans are treating him since his poor performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy won by the Aussies after 10 years. Baggy Greens pulled off a memorable comeback in the series after losing the first match by 295 runs in Perth, sealing the fate with a score of 3-1.

Asking, “Have you felt the love from the Australian public this year? You know, the nation loves you. Have you felt the love?” to which Marsh replied, “Yeah, a lot of love until December. From then on, it’s been a little bit different.”
“But all jokes aside, I mean, over the last few years here, I’ve felt a lot of love from the Australian fans,” he added.

The Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh, just crowned as the ODI World Cup 2023 champion in India, is set to miss the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. He was picked for the Australian squad on January 12 but was ruled out of the eight-team tournament on January 31 over two issues-a chronic back injury.
His injury may impact Marsh’s chances to participate in the IPL in the Lucknow Super Giants, who acquired him for Rs 3.40 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
“Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy on account of ongoing lower back pain and dysfunction,” it said. “His lower back pain flared in recent weeks, inducing the NSP to make the longer-term decision for Marsh to undertake a more extended period of rehabilitation.”
