Cooper Connolly is a dynamic all-rounder from Perth, Australia, who is known for his explosive batting and handy spin bowling, and who has emerged as one of the brightest young stars in cricket.
Born on August 22, 2003, in Perth, Western Australia, Connolly was influenced by local star Shaun Marsh during his formative years and played domestic cricket in Western Australia. The young star made his entry into international cricket as a teenager, making his List A debut for Western Australia against other teams during the 2020/21 Marsh One-Day Cup, where he demonstrated his promise with aggressive batting in the middle order. By 2021, Connolly was selected in the Australia U19 team for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies, where he emerged as the third-highest run-getter with 447 runs at a strike rate of 140, including two centuries, thus gaining widespread recognition.
Connolly’s domestic cricket career began to take off with the 2021-22 Sheffield Shield season, where he performed well for Western Australia, combining power-hitting and spin bowling. In the Big Bash League, he was phenomenal for Perth Scorchers, especially in BBL (2021-22), hitting a match-winning 66 off 37 deliveries while chasing for the Sydney Sixers, helping his side win the title. Connolly also performed well in BBL|12, aggregating 174 runs at a strike rate of 150, becoming a known T20 finisher. By 2023, he got his maiden century (108) for Western Australia against Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield.
Cooper Connolly in IPL Journey

Young and upcoming Australian all-rounder Cooper Connolly started his IPL journey with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2026, having been bought for INR 3 crore in the mini-auction held in December 2025, a defining moment in his international career. On his debut, Cooper smashed a fiery 72 runs, demonstrating his left-handed ability to finish off games with his power-hitting, winning immediate accolades from his skipper Shreyas Iyer and coach Ricky Ponting for his finishing ability to bat at No 3. He has been slated to bat at one-down before Iyer, replacing Josh Inglis, and has been playing as a specialist batsman until late April, having a problem with his back, with Cricket Australia restricting his left-arm spin bowling ability. He has been seen as a game-changer for PBKS, who finished runners-up in 2025, and has adapted his aggressive style, developed in Perth, to suit conditions in India, drawing comparisons with Shaun Marsh from his BBL heroics, and has emerged as PBKS’ X-factor in their opening match of IPL 2026 against Gujarat Titans on March 31 in Chandigarh.
