LSG won’t be renewing Zaheer Khan’s contract as mentor when it expires this month, after his one year term. Sources say LSG will bring in someone new for the mentor role.
This new mentor might also work with the team’s sister franchises: Durban’s Super Giants in SA20 in South Africa and Manchester Originals in The Hundred.
Reports say LSG will name a Director of Cricket. This person will oversee the entire LSG group all year round. Zaheer took over the mentor role when Gautam Gambhir left for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023. Zaheer was also the bowling coach when Morne Morkel left to join Gambhir and the Indian men’s cricket team in 2024.
An insider said LSG wants to replace Zaheer Khan and the new mentor will have more responsibilities, likely work with the group’s other teams too.
Sanjiv Goenka, who owns LSG, is in the UK for The Hundred and will soon announce the new Director of Cricket. The Director of Cricket will be in charge of the overall development and planning of LSG and its related franchises: Durban’s Super Giants in SA20 and Manchester Originals in The Hundred.

LSG recently hired Bharat Arun as their new bowling coach. Sources say Arun will also scout and train young fast bowlers for Durban’s Super Giants. Next year he will do the same with Manchester Originals too.
LSG didn’t have a great 2025 season, finished 7th with 6 wins out of 14 games.
When Arun joined LSG he said he wanted to make Lucknow a close knit and smart team.
Zaheer has worked with Mumbai Indians. He might get other coaching offers in the league before the 2026 season.
