10. Yashasvi Jaiswal – 16 Innings
Yashasvi Jaiswal is among the upcoming superstars for Indian cricket. And he has had a dream start to this international career. Jaiswal made his test debut against West Indies in July 2023 and slammed 171 in his debut inning. He carried it on and scored over 700 runs, including two double hundreds at home. Jaiswal reached 1000 runs in his 16th inning, and he is the second-fastest Indian to reach 1000 test runs.

9. Lawrence Rowe – 16 Innings
Former West Indian top order Lawrence Rowe had a brilliant start to his career. But unfortunately, he couldn’t carry on for long. Rowe made his test debut in 1972 against New Zealand and scored 214 and an unbeaten 100 in two innings. It took him 16 innings to reach 1000 test runs. But despite reaching 1000 runs in 16 innings, he scored the next 1000 runs in 33 innings. He played 30 matches and scored 2047 runs at 43.55, with seven centuries and seven half-centuries.
8. Frank Worrell – 16 Innings
One of three “Ws” for West Indies in the 1950s, Frank Worrell was a run machine for his team. He was a more than useful bowler, but his prime strength was run scoring. He scored 97 runs on his debut against England in 1948. His maiden hundred came in his second test, and he completed 1000 test runs in the 16th inning. Worrell played 51 tests between 1948 and 1963 and scored 3860 runs at an average of 49.48, with nine centuries and 22 half-centuries.
7. Leonard Hutton – 16 Innings
England’s Leonard Hutton was known as one of the best batters that represented the country at the highest level. But he had a poor start, and he scored 0 and 1 in two innings of his debut test against New Zealand in 1937. Hutton backed it up with some good knocks and reached 1000 test runs in his 16th innings. He played 79 test matches for England and scored 6971 runs at an average of 56.67, with 19 centuries and 33 half-centuries. Hutton holds the record for highest test score by an English batter of 364.

6. Vinod Kambli – 14 Innings
Vinod Kambli is the perfect case for a cricketer who had an amazing start to his international career but couldn’t carry it for long. He is the fastest Indian to reach 1000 test runs in test cricket. He scored four centuries, including two double hundreds, in his first 8 test innings. Kambli reached 1000 runs in his 14th innings in test cricket. But he played only 17 tests because he couldn’t score a single fifty in his last seven tests and finished with 1084 runs in 17 tests at an average of 54.20, with four centuries and 3 half-centuries.
5. Neil Harvey – 14 Innings
Born in Melbourne, Neil Harvey had quite a bit of success for Australia at the highest level. He scored two centuries in his first three test innings and six hundreds in his first nine test. Harvey reached 1000 test runs in his 14th innings. He represented Australia in 79 tests between 1948 and 1963 and scored 6149 runs at an average of 48.41, with a best of 205. Harvey scored 21 centuries and 24 half-centuries.
4. Kamindu Mendis – 13 Innings
Kamindu Mendis has certainly established himself as a modern-day superstar for Sri Lanka in test cricket. He has become the fastest batter since 1949 to reach 1000 test runs. Kamindu completed 1000 test runs in his 13th innings, scoring an unbeaten 182 against New Zealand in Galle in September 2024. He made his test debut against Australia in July 2022 and is the first batter to score 50+ scores in the first 8 test matches.

3. Don Bradman – 13 Innings
There is no batting record in test cricket where you won’t find Don Bradman. He was the greatest test batter of all time and had some records, which might never be broken. Bradman holds the record for best batting average and most double hundreds in test cricket. He reached 1000 test runs in his 13th innings. Bradman retired with 52 test matches between 1928 and 1948. He scored 6996 runs at an mind-boggling average of 99.94, with 29 centuries and 13 half-centuries.
2. Everton Weekes – 12 Innings
Everton Weekes was known to be one of the best batters to play for West Indies in test cricket. It took him three tests to reach his first fifty, but then he never looked back and scored five consecutive centuries. Everton took 12 innings to complete 1000 test runs in his career. He played 48 test matches and scored 4455 runs at an average of 58.61, with a best of 207. He also scored 15 centuries and 19 half-centuries.
1. Herbert Sutcliffe – 12 Innings
The record set in 1928 by Herbert Sutcliffe is still live, and there is no other batter who can break his record. The former English star reached 1000 test runs in just 12 innings. He scored loads of runs at different levels. In his first-class cricket, he scored over 50,000 runs. In test cricket, he played 54 games and scored 4555 runs at an average of 60.73, with 16 centuries and 23 half-centuries.
