He is an experienced leg-spinner who played for Rajasthan Royals in the previous season of Indian Premier League. He is known for his wicket-taking skills and has had a very productive season last year; this made him one of the top spinners in the tournament.
The bidding war in the auctions was between three major franchises of the IPL. Though the player has been signed by the Punjab franchise, two other teams who were in the race to get the player on their side in the auctions were Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Yuzvendra Chahal debuted in the IPL in 2013 and played for Mumbai Indians. His debut match was against the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 24, 2013, when he did not get much of an opportunity and played only in one match through his initial three seasons. Later he was signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2014 where he had great success and became one of the best bowlers in the league.
He established his record of being the franchise’s all-time leading wicket-taker in his initial years of Indian Premier League. Initially he was playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) where he took 139 wickets from 113 matches he played for the team.
