But when it comes to MS Dhoni, the situation is shocking. Fans are actually debating his role with the Chennai Super Kings, which is pretty wild. In a few matches, he’s been coming in to bat way down the order when CSK really needed him.
Even Chris Gayle, who has the record for the highest score in IPL history with a mind-blowing 175*, came out in support of Dhoni. He really emphasized how much value Dhoni brings to the league. “You want to see him around for as long as possible,” he said. “You don’t want to push him out or start talking about him like he’s losing his place. That sends the wrong message to such a legendary player. Dhoni has done so much for the IPL and the atmosphere he brings to the game is just unmatched.”
Gayle also pointed out that Dhoni has won so many championships, and suggested that if he steps away from the IPL, things wouldn’t feel the same. “What he has accomplished with his franchise is nothing short of amazing. Plus, Gayle still respects Dhoni’s skills behind the stumps, saying that his wicketkeeping is still right up there and that he remains sharp. It doesn’t matter where he bats in the lineup, even as low as number 11, it’s just nice to know he’s still part of CSK and the IPL.”
On the coaching side, Chennai Super Kings’ coach Stephen Fleming addressed Dhoni’s batting order, noting that fans shouldn’t expect to see him stepping in to bat early in the games this season. After CSK lost to the Rajasthan Royals by just six runs, Dhoni came in at number 7 and managed only 16 runs off 11 balls while chasing a total of 183 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
