In their first game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium for IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals saw their unbeaten run come to an end after a late-game collapse, which included three run outs in the last over while chasing against Mumbai Indians. DC had kicked off the season with three straight wins but lost to MI by 12 runs on Sunday.
During the match, DC was slow in finishing their 20 overs, leading to a fine of Rs 12 lakh for their captain, Axar Patel. The BCCI confirmed the fine in a statement that night, noting it was Patel’s first offense this season regarding over-rate rules.
Axar didn’t perform well with the ball, going wicketless for 19 runs over two overs as Mumbai scored 205/5 after DC chose to bowl first. With the bat, Axar had a decent start with a couple of boundaries but was eventually out by Jasprit Bumrah, making just 9 runs off 6 balls. DC ended up getting bowled out for 193 in 19 overs.
We had the game in hand. Our middle order had some soft dismissals and made some poor shots. Losing by 12 runs with an over left means we could have still pulled it off. It’s tough to rely on the lower order to save us every time, he said after the match. He added, 205 was a solid target on that pitch, especially with the dew coming in.
Next up, DC will host Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday.
