On April 16, during an exciting match in the IPL 2025, the Delhi Capitals managed to chase down a target of 12 runs in just four balls to win their first super over. This nail-biting match took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, where the home ground saw intense action against the Punjab Kings. The Capitals did an excellent job, restricting their opponents to just 11 runs in the super over. With the help of KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs, they managed to reach the target with two balls still to spare.
This latest victory marked the fourth win for Delhi Capitals out of the five super overs they have played in IPL history. With this win, they have officially taken the lead over the Punjab Kings, who had previously held the record for the most super over wins in the IPL. Punjab has three wins out of four super overs they have played.
A standout performer in the match was Mitchell Starc, known for his fast bowling skills. Starc really shined that day, first defending nine runs in the last over of the previous chase and then only allowing 11 runs during the super over, which earned him the Player of the Match award. He played a vital role in the win and brought excitement to the field.
Rajasthan Royals, led by Sanju Samson, seemed to have the upper hand for most of the second half of the game. Starc managed to dismiss Nitish Rana at a crucial moment. Rana, who had been scoring well, fell victim to Starc’s bowling when he was trapped right in front of the wickets in the fourth ball of the 18th over. Rana ended up being the top scorer for his side in this match. Coming in to bat at number four, he faced 28 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes on his way to scoring 51 runs.
Interestingly, Yashasvi Jaiswal also contributed significantly to the Royals’ score, matching Rana’s effort with another 51 runs. He opened the batting and, alongside Sanju Samson, who scored 31 runs off 19 balls, shared a partnership of 61 runs for the first wicket.
Earlier in the game, Abishek Porel was the top scorer for Delhi Capitals, making 49 runs off 37 balls. His performance, alongside KL Rahul’s 38 runs from 32 balls and Axar Patel’s impressive 34 runs off just 14 balls, helped set up the thrilling finish. Overall, it was a great day for cricket fans, highlighting the excitement and unpredictable nature of the IPL.
