Dangerous Trio in Cricket: Cricket is a team game, and one or two individuals can’t win matches. That’s why you need some match-winners on the team. Over the years, the teams that have the most match-winners have become successful. This article is also related to such a topic. We have seen many deadly duos or combos in cricket.

But have you heard about dangerous trio in cricket? There have been times when a team has a deadly combination of three such players who are genuine match-winners. Hence, we will talk about the most dangerous trio in cricket that the game has ever seen so far.

List of Most Dangerous Trio of Cricket World?

India – Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan

After the early 2010s, India were among the best all-format teams in the world. They were unbeatable at home and also won away matches consistently. One of the prime reasons for that was India’s top three in the batting lineup. The trio of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shikhar Dhawan was one of the best batting trios that a team could ever dream of. These three won a number of matches. These three have scored over 55,000 international runs among them.

Australia – Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc

Batters win matches, and bowlers win tournaments. That is why Australia is so successful in modern-day cricket. In the last decade, they have won the ODI World Cup twice, the World Test Championship, and the T20 World Cup, and one of the prime reasons behind that is the trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc. These three pacers make the Australian bowling unit a formidable one. Whatever the success Australia has had in the last 10–12 years, these three are the reasons for that. These three have combined more than 1600 international wickets.

England – Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Jason Roy

After a horrible performance in the 2015 ODI World Cup, Eoin Morgan took the captaincy, and things changed for England. They went on to become a dangerous white-ball side that broke many records and won the 2019 ODI World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup. That was largely because of the trio of Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, and Jason Roy. These three performed consistently and made England a threat to the opposition. Especially, the contribution of these three in the ODI World Cup 2019 helped England win their maiden ODI World Cup title.

West Indies: Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Keiron Pollard

Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Keiron Pollard

West Indian cricket has declined a bit in the last 2–3 years, but they were a dangerous side between the late 2010s and early 2020s. That was because of the availability of players like Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, and Dwayne Bravo. There were some other good players, but these three were the consistent performers. Gayle used to give the team a good start, and Bravo and Pollard, with their all-round ability, used to win matches for the team. This was a very dangerous trio in the cricket world.

India – Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag

The Indian team between 2000 and 2010 started winning away matches and also doing well in ICC events. India have always been a batting-dominant side, and the era where India had Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Virender Sehwag in the top three was something exceptional. These three scored over 76,000 international runs between them, and India were never out of the game until anyone of these three were on the crease. The prime example was the 2003 ODI World Cup, when these three performed well and India reached the final.

Australia – Andrew Symonds, Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting

Andrew Symonds, Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting is the only captain to win four ICC titles and he was very lucky that he had a team of 11 match-winners which dominated the cricket world. But if we have to pick a trio from that group that won three ODI World Cups back-to-back, we will pick Ponting along with Adam Gilchrist and Andrew Symonds. Ponting was someone who is always on your face, and Symonds was a match-winner in both departments. Meanwhile, Gilchrist showed the world how to use the powerplay in white-ball format. He has scored 50+ in the World Cup finals of 1999, 2003, and 2007, which is a rare feat.

South Africa – Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, Graeme Smith

Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, Graeme Smith

South Africa have always been a competitive team, irrespective of the format of the tournament. But the South African team between 2000 and 2015 was something else. It was because they had some really good players. Jacques Kallis was probably the biggest superstar for South Africa in the previous generation. He, Graeme Smith, and Ab de Villiers make a dangerous trio in the cricket world. These three scored tons of runs against the opposition and had different batting styles. But despite that, they were very successful, and we believe the prime of these three is certainly a dangerous trio in the cricket world.

Sri Lanka – Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan

Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan

Between 2007 and 2014, Sri Lanka played four ICC finals, which is an exceptional thing for a team. Though they only won one of them, their consistency was superb. It was largely because of the batting trio of Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, and Tillakaratne Dilshan. These three were run machines in their own way. If one batter fails, the other one makes it big, which is why Sri Lanka is a strong team. And we believe these three made Sri Lanka a formidable squad.

New Zealand – Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Brendon McCullum

Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Brendon McCullum

There is nothing much to celebrate in New Zealand cricket history in terms of ICC titles, but they have always been consistent teams, making it through knockouts. They made it to the finals of the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups and played in the semifinals as well before that. So what made them so successful? According to us, it was the batting power that they had. Ross Taylor, Kane Williamson, and Brendon McCullum are some of the finest batters that have played for New Zealand. And these three-in-one batting XIs were a dangerous trio in the cricket world.

Pakistan – Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Inzamam-ul-Haq

Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Inzamam-ul-Haq

If you have followed cricket closely since the early 1990s, then you should know the carnage done by Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis. These two were a deadly combination with the ball, and there were hardly any batters who had success with these two when they were in their prime. One was the best left-arm pacer, while the other was one of the best right-arm pacers. Then, they had a batting maestro Inzamam-ul-Haq, who was as impactful as any batter in the world. These three played over a decade together and made Pakistan the World Beater.
