Such a fine line exists between being passionate and crossing it, and it seems the Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi went over it yet again. While facing the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a tough contest at the Ekana Stadium, Rathi lost his temper; his actions resulted in 50% of the match fees being fined with a one-match suspension following a heated exchange with Abhishek Sharma.
Post the game, Raina was very harsh on Rathi. Things burned up when Rathi had taken the wicket of Sharma and sent him packing in a fiery manner; Sharma had some words back as well. From then on, the umpires as well as other teammates had to intervene and separate the two before things escalated further.
This is not the first time Rathi has been caught in such trouble. His “notebook celebration,” implying that he was going to write down someone’s name after the wicket taken, had him in trouble with the BCCI this season already. He even attempted to avoid a ban by scribbling on the ground. Clearly, calming down under pressure is not his strength.
Raina questioned Rathi’s judgment after the match and what he actually gets out of the IPL. “He was sold for 30 lakh. He has been fined twice, and another one is coming. What will he have left after the IPL?” Raina went on to say that witnessing two Indian players fighting is not good for the sport.
Rathi took two wickets, though Sharma provided a great reply, smashing 59 from 20 deliveries to grab the title of Player of the Match and steer his team to a 6-wicket victory.

That defeat means LSG’s already lost the chance to play in the playoffs and it’s now a battle between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals for that last spot. In contrast, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings are already in.
Likewise, the IPL chance for Digvesh Rathi will be a big one, yet he seems to be risk-taking on this. With a suspension here, a fine there, and a wildly questionable reputation, perhaps he really needs to get it all together. Keep making waves and he won’t be around long enough to learn his lessons.
