Bangladesh captain Litton Das surprised everyone by saying his plan for the Colombo pitch was set before the last T20I. That’s how he got the key selection right and won the series for the first time in all formats in Sri Lanka.
He replaced all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz with off-spinner Shak Mahedi, thinking the Colombo pitch would help Mahedi. And it worked out great in the 3rd T20I.
Mahedi Hasan’s 4 for 11 destroyed Sri Lanka’s batting and sealed the series for Bangladesh after they lost the Test, ODI and first T20I.
Das said he picks his XIs based only on the pitch. He went into details why he chose Mahedi.
We thought Mahedi would be great on the Colombo pitch. I planned this before seeing the schedule—Mahedi would be my first pick for Colombo. It doesn’t mean Mehidy isn’t a good bowler or batter, Das told the media.
Das made it clear his choices as captain are based on the pitch not personal preference.
As captain I will think hard about the surface before picking a team. If it’s good for bowling I will always pick Mahedi. If it’s good for batting Miraz will be back in the team, Das added.

Thinking about the Pakistan series at home, Das was realistic. I’m not sure how the Mirpur wicket will play. Pakistan will be tough to beat in Mirpur. I know we can win if we play smart, Das said.
The Pakistan series starts on July 20. Pakistan will play Bangladesh in a 3-match T20 series in Mirpur where all three matches will be played.
