Ruturaj Gaikwad has pulled out of his deal with Yorkshire County Cricket Club just before his debut. The club said he won’t be joining them due to personal reasons. He was supposed to play his first game on July 22 against Surrey but won’t be traveling to England.
Anthony McGrath, Yorkshire’s head coach, was disappointed to hear that Gaikwad won’t be joining them. McGrath said he’s not coming because of personal reasons and won’t be here for Scarborough or the rest of the season which is a shame.
The reason for his withdrawal is not known but McGrath hopes everything is okay with the Indian batter.
Gaikwad was supposed to play 5 First-Class matches and some List A games for Yorkshire. Now he won’t be playing any matches this season.
The Mumbai batter hasn’t played any official match since April 8 when he led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025 but was ruled out due to an elbow injury.
Though Ruturaj went to England with the India A team, he didn’t play any of the unofficial Test matches against England Lions. He only played an intra-squad match before the series started.
So far Gaikwad has played 38 First-Class matches, scored 2632 runs with an average of 41.77 which includes 7 centuries. Though those are good numbers, they haven’t been enough to get him a spot in India’s Test team yet.

In white-ball cricket he seems to be a little behind. His 2025 IPL season ended early due to injury and he only scored 122 runs in 5 games with an average of 24.40.
In India’s 2024-25 domestic season Gaikwad scored 571 runs in 12 innings including one century. His form dropped during the India A tour of Australia where he scored 20 runs in 4 matches.
