Despite the diplomatic issues between India and Pakistan, a veterans’ T20 tournament has caught attention as both the teams are playing. After their match in the World Championship of Legends was cancelled due to Indian players pulling out, the two arch-rivals will now face each other in the semifinals.
Pakistan Champions topped the group stage with 4 wins and 1 no result in 5 matches. India Champions finished 4th with 1 win, 1 no result and 3 losses.
The tournament is structured in a way that top 4 teams after the league stage move to the semifinals. The team at the top will play the 4th team in the 1st semifinal on Thursday. On the same day, 2nd and 3rd team will play the 2nd semifinal.
According to this format, India will play Pakistan in the 1st semifinal and South Africa will play Australia in the 2nd.
The question is: will the semifinal between India and Pakistan be cancelled? Given the circumstances, it seems unlikely.
Pakistan Champions owner Kamil Khan earlier said the tournament schedule will not be affected but a semifinal between the two teams will be avoided. He told GeoNews that if both teams make it to the semifinals, matches between them will be avoided.
The organizers will face issues if India and Pakistan win their respective semifinals and then meet in the final. Will the final take place or will it be cancelled and both teams be declared joint winners? Or will the team that finished on top in the league stage be declared the winner?
