Shaheen Shah Afridi, the Pakistan fast bowler, spoke about Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan being left out of the Asia Cup 2025 team. He said they are both good players and he is sure they will be back in T20Is soon.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) surprised many when they announced the Pakistan team for the Asia Cup 2025. Dropping Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan was unexpected and started a lot of talk.
Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been part of Pakistan’s T20I wins. But some poor performances led the PCB to consider other options and add younger players to the Asia Cup 2025 team which is being led by Salman Ali Agha.

Both batsmen were key to Pakistan’s T20I lineup, scoring runs and winning games for the team. But the decision not to pick them led to fans criticizing the PCB especially with India matches coming up.
Shaheen Afridi spoke about Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s exclusion, saying they are talented players with a good record. While saying everyone deserves a chance to show what they can do, he said he’s sure they will be back in the team. He told reporters:
“I think everyone should have a chance to play. Babar and Rizwan are world-class players, they have played well for Pakistan and I am sure they will again with God’s help. But again everyone should have a chance and they should make the most of it. We should support the young guys we have too.”
There are reports that Pakistan might make some changes to the Asia Cup team. Some reports said Babar Azam might be added to the team as a special case. Given his past record and leadership, this would bring in an experienced player to the team. The PCB wants to find the right mix of youth and experience that will give them the best chance of winning the Asia Cup so they will keep considering all options as the event gets closer.
The team’s leaders are under pressure to deliver and are willing to consider all options to make sure the team is ready for the tournament. The final decision will show the PCB’s intention to give the team the best chance to win which will please both the fans and the players.
