After Pakistan’s defeat to India in the Asia Cup 2025, Irfan Pathan, the former Indian all-rounder, couldn’t help but take a dig at their rivals. The high-stakes match didn’t live up to the hype as India thrashed Pakistan by 7 wickets and entered the Super 4s. From the start, India under Suryakumar Yadav looked the better team and Pakistan struggled to keep up.
Hardik Pandya set the tone for India, dismissing Saim Ayub for a duck off the first ball of the match. From there India never looked back. Pakistan recovered to 45/2 but then lost 5 wickets for 38 runs. They could only manage 127/9. Sahibzada Farhan, the opener, scored 40 off 44 while Shaheen Afridi added 33* to help his team reach a somewhat respectable score.
For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the star bowler, taking 3 wickets. Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel took 2 wickets each to support Yadav.
India’s batting was just as dominant. They chased the score without breaking a sweat, reaching the target in 16 overs with 3 wickets down. Suryakumar Yadav led the charge with an unbeaten 47 while Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma scored 31 each.
After Pakistan’s big loss, Irfan Pathan pointed out the difference between the two teams. He went to the extent of saying that even some of India’s domestic teams can beat Pakistan.
Which of our domestic teams can beat Pakistan? I know for sure Mumbai can beat them. Punjab can beat them. Next which IPL team can beat Pakistan? Many of them, Irfan Pathan said on Sony Sports Network.
Abhishek Nayar, former Mumbai all-rounder and India’s assistant coach, agreed, “Pakistan is no match for India.”
