Veteran batsman Sean Williams has been pulled out of the Zimbabwe squad that is currently participating in the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Final. Having left the host nation squad for personal reasons, wicketkeeper-batter Clive Madande has been roped in as the replacement.
Zimbabwe, meanwhile, started their campaign with a five-wicket win against Uganda on Friday, another match in which Sean Williams was a no-show. This tournament is a path towards the 2026 T20 World Cup, with the top two getting a ticket.
Agile behind the stumps and a useful hand with the bat down the order, Madande now joins the side in their pursuit of a ticket for the World Cup. This could give the team management a fresh option as they make their way through the round-robin format involving eight teams, including formidable Namibia.

Without Williams, Zimbabwe will look to build on their winning start, Williams having been an all-round powerhouse in Zimbabwe cricket for several years.
Winning the Africa Region Final presents an important opportunity for Zimbabwe to start claiming the place at the global tournament in India and Sri Lanka in early 2026. Along with other top Associate nations in the competition, the hosts are considered one of the favourites to proceed.
The next fixtures will be of keen interest as the team adapts to the sudden change in squad composition. The tournament continues with all teams looking to seal the two available slots at the 2026 T20 World Cup.
