The drama involving the Asia Cup 2025 trophy grows every day, with the champions, India, still waiting for the presentation of the trophy after having won against Pakistan in the finals held in Dubai on September 28, 2025.
According to Dainik Jagran journalist Abhishek Tripathi, the trophy and players’ medals are currently with Mohsin Naqvi, President of the Asian Cricket Council and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. The silverware is said to still be at the Dubai hotel where Naqvi is staying.
India disagreed to take trophy from PCB chief
The controversy regarding the Asia Cup trophy began right after India defeated Pakistan in an exciting final. The post-match presentation ceremony was delayed for almost an hour as Indian players allegedly refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi.

With the strained relations between the two countries, reports asserted, Suryakumar Yadav and co. did not want to receive the trophy from a political figure. With this take, India marched ahead awkwardly, and Naqvi, without the normal rituals of handing over the trophy, went off the venue.
Interestingly, he had taken the trophy and medals along while leaving the stadium.
Per the same newspiece by Tripathi, the BCCI, upset by the whole incident and Naqvi’s conduct, has started discussions with the other Asian cricket boards to bring this issue to a close. Furthermore, Naqvi has allegedly been instructed by the Indian board to hand the trophy and medals over to the ACC office in Dubai immediately, claiming that the silverware is ‘not his personal property.
The BCCI will reportedly formally take up the issue during the forthcoming ICC conference in November.
Thereafter, sources close to the ACC have revealed that Naqvi is willing to give away the trophy, wants a proper ceremony to hand over the trophy, and that he should personally hand the trophy to the Indian team.
