The Ranji Trophy’s 91st edition is scheduled to start on October 15 and involve BCCI’s top domestic competition of 38 teams who will play through the 138 games to be crowned the champions of the tournament. Among other things, Bengal has shared their lineup for the competition, and Abhimanyu Easwaran is going to be the captain of the eastern team.
The Delhi Capitals player, Abhishek Porel, will be the vice-captain, and the most remarkable news is that Mohammed Shami has been included in the squad of 17 players. Shami has been making headlines lately because he was unable to secure a spot in the Indian Test team for the home series against the West Indies.
It is worth mentioning that the right-arm fast bowler has been encountering injuries since the 2023 ODI World Cup and has not been able to rejoin the Test team. On the other hand, the 35-year-old player will try to utilize the Ranji Trophy platform to display his skills and thus pave his way to the selectors.

On the other hand, Shami who last represented India during the 2025 Champions Trophy, has recently brushed aside the doubts regarding his fitness and confirmed that he is fine.
“Many rumors and memes have circulated regarding my non-selection. People want to hear my side, but the truth is, selection is not in my hands, it depends on the selection committee, the coach, and the captain. They will decide whether I am ready or need more time. Meanwhile, I am completely absorbed in practice and training,” Shami said in his YouTube channel.
