Mohammed Shami donned the Indian jersey the last time at the Champions Trophy 2025, and almost eight months have passed since then. He is still looking forward to a comeback in Team India. The veteran bowler, in a recent development, was in the limelight for his remarks about the national selectors.
RP Singh visits Mohammed Shami at Eden Gardens
Not many days after Shami openly rebuked the selection committee, newly appointed selector RP Singh had a meeting with the senior pacer at Eden Gardens on Sunday, concerning the issue of communication between the selectors and the players.
Sportskeeda has reported that RP Singh was at Eden Gardens, where he witnessed Bengal’s Ranji Trophy match against Gujarat, and after the day’s play, he had a ‘lengthy discussion’ with Shami.
“After the media exchanges between Ajit Agarkar and Mohammad Shami last week, newly-appointed selector RP Singh is at Eden Gardens for the Bengal vs Gujarat clash. The World T20 winner spoke to Shami at length after the day’s play today,” says the report.
But it should be emphasized that the true reasons and Shami’s conversation with Agakar are still unknown
Shami’s Disagreement with Ajit Agarkar
Mohammed Shami was displeased at being left out of the white-ball tour of Australia, which was held at the start of this month. He claimed he was not communicated regarding his exclusion by the selectors.
Agarkar, addressing the accusations, asserted that Shami was not selected due to fitness issues, stressing that the choice was made solely on the basis of inputs from the medical and team management.
It would not be inaccurate to suggest that the selector BCCI who was just appointed RP Singh’s rendezvous with Shami might be related to the recent disagreement between Agarkar and the veteran fast bowler. If we consider the general numbers of this year in ODIs, the bowler from Bengal has participated in 7 games and has picked up 11 scalps at a mean of 30.64 and a rate of 5.93.
