Ashleigh Gardner produced a sensational all-round display to guide Australia to a commanding 40-run victory over New Zealand, sealing the Rose Bowl series in style. The allrounder’s explosive 84 off just 45 balls set the platform for a formidable total, and she followed it up with crucial wickets to dismantle the New Zealand chase just when the visitors looked threatening.
Walking in with Australia needing acceleration in the middle overs, Gardner took the attack to the New Zealand bowlers from the outset. Her innings was littered with clean strikes through the covers and over the leg side, mixing calculated aggression with smart placement. The 45-ball knock not only boosted Australia’s total significantly but also shifted momentum firmly in the hosts’ favour, leaving the Kiwi bowlers searching for answers in the field.
Gardner’s Spell Seals the Deal
With the ball in hand, Gardner was equally impactful. As CricketBuzz understands, she returned to break crucial partnerships during New Zealand’s chase, striking at pivotal moments to halt any momentum the visitors were building. Her two wickets proved decisive, derailing the required run rate and ensuring Australia’s bowling unit maintained control throughout the back end of the innings.
The 40-run margin reflected Australia’s all-round superiority across both departments of the game, with Gardner’s performance standing out as the defining contribution. New Zealand fought hard but could never quite recover from the early setbacks, both with bat and ball, inflicted by the Australian allrounder. As CricketBuzz reported earlier in the series, Gardner has been in exceptional form, and this latest effort further cements her reputation as one of the most valuable allrounders in the women’s game today. Stay with CricketBuzz for more updates as the series concludes and both sides look ahead to their upcoming assignments.
