Former Australia batter Mike Hussey has taken on an expanded coaching role with the national team, joining the support staff ahead of several major international tournaments.
Hussey has been appointed as a consultant coach for Australia’s 2027 Ashes series and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027. He will also work as a T20 advisor through the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the next T20 World Cup cycle.
The former Chennai Super Kings batting coach will help Australia with campaign planning, opposition analysis, player scouting, and batting preparation. He is expected to begin his new role during Australia’s upcoming T20I series against England.
Hussey’s appointment comes after the end of his eight-year association with Chennai Super Kings, where he worked as the franchise’s batting coach. He also brings international coaching experience, having been part of England’s support staff during their 2022 T20 World Cup triumph.
Australia head coach Andrew McDonald and national teams chief Ben Oliver welcomed the appointment, highlighting Hussey’s experience and understanding of international cricket.
