USA Cricket is moving closer to a major administrative and financial overhaul as it looks for a way out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy. A new reorganization plan could bring fresh leadership, additional financial support, and a different governance structure to the country’s cricket administration.
The proposal includes the appointment of three independent directors and up to $3.145 million in additional funding from American Cricket Enterprises (ACE), the organization behind Major League Cricket (MLC). The plan is designed to keep USA Cricket operational while it works toward restoring its suspended International Cricket Council (ICC) membership.
The proposed changes come at an important time for American cricket, with the sport set to return to the Olympic program at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
Three Independent Directors Proposed for USA Cricket
Bankruptcy trustee Mark Dennis has proposed three independent directors to lead USA Cricket as part of its reorganization plan. The nominees are Selina Kaing, Patrick Singleton, and Norman Wain.
Each candidate brings experience from corporate leadership, international sports administration, and Olympic sports governance.
- Selina Kaing: She has more than 20 years of experience in the technology and corporate sectors. Her professional background includes senior roles at companies such as Google, Marvell, Disney, and Nestlé. She has also held leadership positions with USA Fencing.
- Patrick Singleton: A three-time Olympian from Bermuda, Singleton previously served on the International Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Commission from 2016 to 2020. He also has experience in international sports administration.
- Norman Wain: He brings 14 years of experience at USA Track & Field, where he worked as chief of business and legal affairs and general counsel between 2010 and 2024.
The selection process was observed by the ICC and the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC).
If the bankruptcy court approves the reorganization plan and it becomes effective, the terms of all existing USA Cricket directors will end, allowing the three independent directors to take charge.
ACE Offers Up to $3.145 Million in Additional Funding
Financial support is another major part of the proposed restructuring.
American Cricket Enterprises has committed to providing up to $3.145 million in additional financing to help USA Cricket manage its operating expenses and working capital.
The funding is particularly important because USA Cricket’s ICC membership was suspended in September 2025. As a result, the organization has faced difficulties accessing the financial support normally available through its international cricket membership.
The proposed financing is intended to help cover administrative costs, employee expenses, and other essential operations while the organization works toward resolving its governance problems.
The financial arrangement also includes provisions that could extend support beyond the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics and into 2029. This gives USA Cricket a longer period to rebuild its administration without depending on an immediate return to full ICC membership.
New Governance Structure to Give Players a Bigger Role
The reorganization plan also proposes a significant change to the way USA Cricket will be governed.
Under the proposed constitution, the organization could eventually have a board consisting of nine to eleven directors. Athlete representatives would hold at least 33.3% of the board’s voting power.
This would give players a stronger voice in important administrative and organizational decisions.
The three independent directors are expected to provide oversight during the transition period. Their responsibilities will include improving governance, rebuilding relationships with key stakeholders, and helping the organization meet international and Olympic requirements.
The structure is also designed to reduce internal conflicts that have affected USA Cricket’s administration in recent years
Restoring ICC Membership Will Be a Major Challenge
Although the new plan offers a possible path out of bankruptcy, USA Cricket still has several important tasks ahead.
The three major priorities for the incoming leadership will be:
- Regaining ICC membership: USA Cricket must address the issues that led to its suspension and meet the requirements for reinstatement.
- Finalizing an agreement with ACE: The organization needs to establish a long-term commercial agreement with ACE based on the economic and structural terms of their original 2019 agreement.
- Meeting USOPC requirements: USA Cricket must satisfy the governance standards required to receive recognition from the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee.
The proposed plan also requires the reorganized organization to provide ACE with monthly written updates about its efforts to regain ICC membership, including important communications with the ICC and USOPC.
Restoring the commercial relationship with ACE will be particularly important because disagreements between the two organizations over commercial rights and administrative responsibilities were among the major issues behind the crisis.
How Did USA Cricket Reach Bankruptcy?
USA Cricket’s financial and administrative problems developed over several years.
The organization experienced ongoing disagreements with American Cricket Enterprises over commercial agreements and governance responsibilities. The situation became more serious in 2025.
On August 22, 2025, USA Cricket ended its agreement with ACE. On September 24, 2025, the ICC suspended the organization’s membership over governance and administrative concerns.
USA Cricket subsequently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on October 1, 2025, as it struggled to manage its financial and organizational challenges.
On January 12, 2026, the bankruptcy court removed the existing board and appointed Mark Dennis as the bankruptcy trustee.
Since then, Dennis has been responsible for overseeing the organization’s restructuring process and developing a plan to help it move forward.
January 2027 Could Be a Turning Point for USA Cricket
The proposed reorganization plan still needs approval from the US bankruptcy court before the changes can take effect.
The trustee has requested a confirmation hearing around January 15, 2027, or no later than January 22. The additional financing arrangements are expected to require a separate confirmation order by January 29, 2027.
If approved, the plan could mark the beginning of a new chapter for USA Cricket, with independent leadership, additional financial resources, and a revised governance structure.
The timing is especially important because cricket will feature at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The United States is preparing to host the event, but the national governing body needs to resolve its administrative problems and restore its international standing.
For now, the proposed restructuring provides a possible route toward stability. However, the success of the plan will depend on court approval, cooperation between USA Cricket and ACE, and the organization’s ability to meet the ICC’s requirements.
The next few months could therefore play a major role in determining the future of cricket administration in the United States.
