Asian arch-rivals, India and Pakistan have been playing against each other in ODI cricket since 1978. The first ever One Day game between the two teams was played on October 1, 1978 and the Men In Blue won by four runs. Notably, this was the time when India played against Pakistan for a bilateral series after the 1960-61 Pakistan tour of India.
Due to strained political relations between the two nations, both teams didn’t engage in a bilateral series till 1978. Meanwhile, since 1978, both Asian sides have played 135 games against each other. Most of these games were played till 2012-13 as India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series due to strained political relations. Since the last 11-12 years, both teams play each other in Asia Cups and ICC tournaments

India vs Pakistan Head to Head in Champions Trophy
Both teams played each other in the Champions Trophy only in 2004. In the first three editions (1998, 2000, 2002), both teams didn’t play against each other. In the first match between them in the tournament’s history, the Men In Green won by three wickets in the low-scoring encounter. After the clash between the two sides, both teams had to wait until 2009 to play each other again in CT.
In the 09 clash, Pakistan won by 54 runs in a day-night game. Four years later, in 2013, both teams played each other again but the contest was one-sided and the hype was close to nil. In the previous edition of the tournament, for the first time, India and Pakistan played each other twice. In the league game, the then Virat Kohli-led side won by 124 runs while the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side won the final by 180 runs.
