2014 finalists, Punjab Kings (PBKS) are arguably the strongest teams going into the IPL 2025. Ahead of the mega auction last year, the Mohali-based team decided to retain two uncapped Indian players. During the auction, they managed to get back a T20 World Cup 2024 winner while building a new squad including those players who have played for the team before.
The team is going in with a new coach and a new captain, they are hoping for a different result other than finishing outside of playoffs. The last time they qualified for the playoffs was way back in 2014 as they played the final. The Red Brigade would like to go a step further. In this listicle, let’s have a look at four overseas players who will play for Punjab.
4 overseas players who will play for PBKS
1. Glenn Maxwell
The three-time World Cup for Australia is back with the Punjab side. He previously played for the team from 2014-2017 and then in 2020. Maxwell did well with the bat in 2021 and 2023 while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore. The explosive batter is expected to play in the middle order.
2. Marcus Stoinis
The batting all-rounder last played for the team from 2016 to 2018. He then went onto play for RCB (2019), Delhi Capitals (2020-2021) and then Lucknow SuperGiants (2022-2024). The ODI World Cup 2023 winner has played 96 games and has 1866 runs to his name, including a match-winning 124 not-out against Chennai Super Kings last year. Stoinis will be another middle-order player in the team.
3. Marco Jansen
The left-arm pacer from South Africa will play for Punjab Kings for the first time. He previously played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians. The all-round cricket is equally capable with the bat and is expected to bat in the lower-middle order and bowl with the new ball.
4. Lockie Ferguson
The New Zealand tearaway pacer is expected to play as the middle-overs enforcer in the team. Given the way he bowls, he is ideally suited to bowl in the middle overs and pick wickets. Ferguson will take the fourth overseas slot.
