Axar Patel played his debut IPL match on April 18, 2014. Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) handed him his maiden cap against Chennai Super Kings.
And Patel started his IPL career with the wicket of Brendon McCullum, though he gave away 34 runs in his four overs. The left-arm spinner made a crucial contribution to Punjab’s run to the final that season, taking 17 wickets in as many matches.

Axar Patel Performance in IPl 2024
Axar Patel had a good run in IPL 2024, more so with the bat. He stood tall on the pitch when the top order failed to put up runs.
Patel aggregated 235 runs while striking at 131 and took 11 wickets at an economy of 7.65 in 14 matches. His run-tally also included two fifties, with 66 against Gujarat Titans now his best score in the IPL.

Axar Patel IPL Auction Price History
In over a decade, Axar Patel has been part of only three IPL teams. Patel landed his first IPL gig with Mumbai Indians in 2013 at INR 10 lakhs, but he didn’t play a match that season.
Mumbai released him ahead of the next season, and he moved to Kings XI Punjab for INR 75 lakhs in 2014. Patel played at the same price for four seasons before Punjab retained him for INR 6.75 crore in 2018.
But a below-average outing in 2018 meant he was back in auction ahead of the 2019 season. Delhi Capitals then snapped up Patel for INR 5 crore.
Patel has been with Delhi since then, while his salary increased to INR 9 crore in 2022 and INR 16.50 crore ahead of IPL 2025.
