Faf du Plessis played his debut IPL match on April 4, 2012. The South African got his maiden cap for Chennai Super Kings against Mumbai Indians.

Faf du Plessis IPL Auction Price & History:
Faf du Plessis bagged his first IPL gig in 2011. Chennai Super Kings bought him for INR 55 lakhs in the auction.
Du Plessis’ salary increased a bit in the following seasons. In 2014, the franchise retained him for INR 4.75 crore.
Two seasons later, Rising Pune Supergiants signed the South African at the same price. His salary dropped to INR 4 crore in 2017.
As CSK returned to the IPL after serving a two-year ban, they snapped du Plessis for INR 1.6 crore in 2018. After four seasons, the franchise didn’t retain him, though they tried to buy him back. But RCB won the bidding war and bought du Plessis for INR 7 crore in 2022.
