During the IPL auctions throughout the years, it has been a common practice for the franchises to reveal the unbelievable value they placed on the uncapped talent in India. Many of the players who had no international experience at all have been getting bids that were even higher than those for the seasoned stars in some cases.
Let us take a glance at the most expensive uncapped IPL auction players in history and what the reasons were for those huge paychecks
Avesh Khan – ₹10 crore (LSG, 2022)

In the auction for the year 2022, fast bowler Avesh Khan made a record when the Lucknow Super Giants bought him for ₹10 crore, who then became the most expensive player among uncapped players temporarily.
Although Avesh had never played senior international matches for India till then, his amazing speed, death-overs bowling, and playing consistently for Delhi Capitals made him one of the most popular young pacers.

Krishnappa Gowtham – ₹9.25 crore (CSK, 2021)

Prior to Avesh, the record was held by Krishnappa Gowtham who was acquired by Chennai Super Kings for a whopping ₹9.25 crore during the 2021 mini-auction. Starting from a minimum price of only ₹20 lakh, the off-spin all-rounder set off a fierce bidding battle. He was already surpassing Krunal Pandya’s previous record because of his ability to bowl in powerplay overs and give explosive late-order hitting.
Shahrukh Khan & Rahul Tewatia – ₹9 crore each (PBKS & GT, 2022)

Besides Avesh Khan, the mega auction of 2022 also witnessed two headline grabbers in the form of Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia, both of whom got ₹9 crore.
Shahrukh Khan, the powerful finisher, was chosen by several franchises before the Punjab Kings eventually sealed the deal for him. His strength and calmness in the dying moments of the match had already made him a star in domestic cricket.
Rahul Tewatia, a player chosen by Gujarat Titans, not only contributed with his all-round performance but also brought along his outstanding ability to perform miracles under pressure. His most significant magical moment was the one where he stole the show for Rajasthan Royals. His short innings and finishing abilities were of paramount importance in Gujarat’s victorious run.
Krunal Pandya – ₹8.80 crore (MI, 2018)

To go even further back, Krunal Pandya not only paved the way but also set the limit in 2018 when the Mumbai Indians used their Right to Match (RTM) card to get him for ₹8.80 crores after RCB’s strong offer. At that time, he was the most expensive uncapped player in IPL history, a record that lasted until 2021.
