It is a big question in the minds of people who will lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025 season. Though the auctions have already taken place and the team was not able to buy their previous captain Faf du Plessis. He was their captain for the past three seasons but this time he is not on board. Thus, it raises a big question of who will be the captain of RCB this season.
It was seen that the franchise retained three players from their team prior to the auctions. And they were Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal. And the rest 19 players have been signed during the auction.
Thus, RCB has signed a total of 22 players and some of the major overseas players bought by the team are Liam Livingstone, Josh Hazlewood, and Tim David.
Most Probable Captain of RCB for IPL 2025 Season
Virat Kohli
Now looking at the squad, Virat Kohli seems the first and foremost option that comes into the mind and his name was doing rounds even ahead of the deadline for retention itself and is also being speculated that he increased his retention price to INR 21 crore because he was going to be the captain.
However nothing can be said right now as RCB officials declined all those reports later. But with no solid option available in the squad among Indian players, there is every chance of Virat Kohli getting back the leadership duties if the franchise insists him to even after willingly stepping down post IPL 2021 season.
Rajat Patidar
Rajat Patiar can also be the next captain of the team as he has been retained by the franchise for a big amount of INR 11 crore which is comparatively very high than his last year sum that was only INR 20 lakh.
Seeing his success in the last three seasons as a batter in the team and sudden increase in his price as he was retained are indicating that there might be some plans of the board members to make him the leader of the team. Seeing all this one can say that he can be the probable captain of the team for the IPL 2025 season.

Phil Salt
RCB paid a massive amount of INR 11.5 crore to get Phil Salt on board. He had his first successful IPL season with KKR in 2024 as he scored 435 runs from 12 innings at 182 strike rate with four half-centuries under his name. That is the reason that he was paid a huge amount in the auction by the franchise to get him on their side.
England is also eyeing him for the role of white-ball future skipper and he has led the team in two T20Is this year, and has won one. Thus, there are chances if Kohli declines the offer to be captain, Salt can be named the skipper of RCB next season.
Liam Livingstone
Liam Livingstone is going to play for RCB for the first time in this season. He was paid a sum of INR 8.75 crore. He has played for Punjab Kings for the last three seasons. And has scored a total of 827 runs in 30 matches he has played for the team and the accumulative strike rate for these three years is 140.
He has even led England in three ODIs till date; out of which the team has won one. Thus, he can also be the probable choice for captaincy for RCB this season in IPL 2025.
