The Irani Cup is one of India’s premier red-ball tournaments, which is being played every year under the supervision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This tournament is played between the reigning Ranji Trophy winner and the Rest of India team, which includes top players from other state teams, excluding players from Ranji Trophy winners.
The first edition of the Irani Cup was played back in 1959–60, and the 62nd edition of the tournament, Irani Cup 2024, is all set to be played between October 1 and 5. The Rest of India team will take on Mumbai, who are the reigning Ranji Trophy champion. Ajinkya Rahane will lead Mumbai, while Ruturaj Gaikwad has been given the responsibility to lead the Rest of India team.
Abhimanyu Easwaran will assist Gaikwad as vice-captain. Mumbai won the last edition of the Ranji Trophy, beating Vidarbha in the final by 169 runs. They won a record 42nd Ranji Trophy title. The Irani Cup 2024 will be a one-match tournament, and ROI won the last edition against Saurashtra.
