With the LPL League beginning in July, The Lanka Premier League’s highly anticipated player auction has begun at the Hilton Hotel in Colombo! Over 420 cricketers, a mix of Sri Lankan heroes and international stars (154 Sri Lankans and 266 overseas players), are about to go under the hammer for a chance to join one of the five LPL franchises.
Each team kicks off with $500,000 to build their dream squad, adding up to a total of $2.5 million. But here’s the twist: they’ve got to spend at least 90% of that stash, so bidding smart is crucial. Just like last year’s LPL Auction, this year’s auction is led by Charu Sharma who was there to witness these cricket stars get snatched up by their new teams.

With the LPL(Lanka Premier League) Auctions done today, the most important and highest-paying deal is clinched by the CSK fast Bowler, Matheesha Pathirana, who has been acquired by the Colombo Strikers for a whopping sum of USD 120,000 on Tuesday(21 May 2024). He broke the previous highest-paid player record of Dilshan Madushanka, signed by Jaffna Kings for USD 92,000 in the LPL 2023 auction.
