The Lanka Premier League (LPL) has evolved into a talent development platform for growing Sri Lankan cricketers who cross paths with renowned international players. The LPL focuses on T20 fixtures, matching the global interest in short-form cricket. The Sri Lankan cricket team started the first edition of the LPL in 2020.
The LPL 2024 featured five franchises in July, continuing with the tradition from the inaugural edition. As senior cricketers eventually retire, this tournament has become a hub to hunt emerging players for International selection. Ever since this domestic league commenced, it has built an international audience, garnering global viewership as international cricketers also feature, just like a typical T20 league.
With refreshed squads, Galle Marvels, Jaffna Kings, Colombo Strikers, Kandy Falcons, and Dambulla Sixers will return for a fresh opportunity to lift the coveted trophy. In this sixth edition, the Jaffna Kings will be back as the defending champions, and they are the most successful LPL franchise with three titles. Jaffna Stallions and B-Love Kandy (Kandy Falcons) won the LPL title only once.

LPL Match Schedule 2025
In the double-round robin format, each team will play twice against another team in the league stage. The opening match will kick off on August 1, 2025, at Pallekele at 7:30 PM IST. This tournament will also feature double headers, starting from August 2. As the LPL 2025 progresses, the top four teams will get into the knockout phase, starting on August 18 with Qualifier 1. At last, the grand finale will take place between the winners of Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 on August 21, 2025, at Colombo.
