Aakash Chopra, the former Indian cricketer, feels Jasprit Bumrah’s pace has gone down in the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford. Chopra said Bumrah hasn’t bowled a ball above 140 kph in this match.
This drop in pace matches his performance. After bowling 28 overs, he got just one wicket against England. England finished Day 3 at 544-7, 186 runs ahead.
Chopra feels Bumrah’s workload is the reason for the dip in pace.
Chopra compared Bumrah’s pace throughout the series. He pointed out that Bumrah bowled 40% of his deliveries at 140 kph or higher in Headingley. That number went down to 27% at Lord’s. In this Old Trafford Test, he hasn’t bowled a single ball above that speed.

On his YouTube channel, the commentator said:
“Looking at Bumrah’s speeds, 40% of his deliveries were at 140 kph-plus at Headingley. By Lord’s, it dropped to 27%. At Old Trafford, he hasn’t bowled a single ball over 140 kph. There was also a minor injury scare with the second new ball. Will the workload continue like this? The speed is decreasing, which is more noticeable since the opposition has scored 544 runs. Bumrah’s speed drop is worrying, I don’t know why it’s happening.”
Despite his slowing down, Bumrah has been the best bowler in the series. In five innings, he has taken 13 wickets at 26.69. That’s the best among players who have taken more than 10 wickets.
