Aakash Chopra, the former Indian player, doesn’t agree with Michael Vaughan’s statement that Ben Duckett is the best all-format player. Chopra says Duckett has been steady in all three formats but hasn’t proven himself enough in different conditions or big games to deserve such praise. He says Duckett wasn’t even in the conversation until Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma quit playing all three formats.
Vaughan made this claim after Duckett was named Player of the Match for his scores of 62 and 149 in the first Test against India. Chopra said on his YouTube channel, If we look at Ben Duckett’s play, he is good. He has done well in the last two years in all three formats.
Chopra then said, Before Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma quit playing all three formats, Duckett wasn’t even in the picture. They were like huge mountains, so everything else looked small in comparison.
When they stepped down, it felt like there were very few all-format players left, so Duckett looked like the best of the rest. But he hasn’t played Test cricket in Australia, has only played three innings in South Africa and hasn’t made an impact in India. So, it’s not a clear-cut situation.
Chopra then offered his own choice, saying Travis Head from Australia may not have as good Test stats as Duckett but he’s more well-rounded.

Chopra said, Travis Head is right there with him. Looking at Travis Head’s stats for the last two years, you might question Vaughan’s statement. Head may be a bit behind in Tests but when you consider ODI cricket and big games, such as the 2023 WTC final and the 2023 ODI World Cup final, scoring in big games is what really counts.
Head has a record of performing well in these contests. Comparing them directly, their stats are similar. Ben Duckett is better in some areas and Travis Head is better in others. I think Travis Head is slightly better overall because he has performed well in big moments, he concluded.
